MEN’S 1s WIN!
By Ross Harrington
Men's 1s win again!
The Mens 1’s continued their high scoring campaign with a 5-4 win against Bath Buccs.
Pete Johnson got the team off to a flying start with a well taken reverse stick strike in the first two minutes of the match.
Gryphons went 2-0 up with a goal for Chris Tomlinson but were soon pegged back to 2-1 after some sloppy defending.
Pete Johnson’s second goal came straight off the training pitch. Harley Snook with the ball at centre back, swung over to Matt Holden, straight up the line to returning Rhys Phillips, up to Simon Price at the top of the D who slipped it left to Dave Edgar who finally found Pete Johnson all alone in the middle of the D to finish the job.
The third goal should have been a comfortable cushion at half time but the second half started badly conceding 3 quick, poor, unanswered goals to trail for the first time in the game 3-4 down.
In seasons past, Gryphons may have crumbled but the new team resolve meant they fought hard to the end with Chris Tomlinson levelling the scores before a 5th goal that was almost a copy of the 3rd.
This time from the left sideline, Ross Harrington found Joe Thomas down the line, who carried the ball all the way to the left side of the D, found Pete Johnson at the top who slipped it right to Dave Edgar to beat the keeper with a well taken goal for the win and the continuation of their undefeated start to the season.
